A Family-Owned Holiday Home
Karschau 11 belongs to no company and no investor. Our family built it in 1958 and has never sold it. You can see that in the house — above all in decisions an operator would have made differently.
The Same Family Since 1958
The house began as a weekend cottage on a slope above the Schlei, on a plot nobody thought much of at the time. Three generations spent their summers here before the idea of letting it ever came up.
You can tell. The ceiling beams above the beds are the original ones, because we did not want to hide them. The old oaks are still standing, although they are in the way. A developer would have decided both differently.
What Happened in 2026
We renovated the house down to the bare walls: new bathrooms, new kitchen, new building services, fresh thatch. A heat pump, underfloor heating in every room, WiFi 7, and a panoramic gas fireplace visible from two sides.
The point is not the list of features but the decision behind it: anyone doing up a house for resale saves on what cannot be seen. We did the opposite, because we stay here ourselves.
Why We Take Only Four Guests
Across 110 m² you could comfortably fit six or eight beds. We do not. Two bedrooms, four guests, no more — even on a rainy day nobody should be in anyone's way.
That is a decision against revenue and in favour of the stay. An operator working to occupancy figures would arrive at a different answer.
How the Booking Actually Works
We are precise here, because with holiday homes “private” often promises more than it delivers: enquiries and bookings do not reach us personally. They are handled by the management that looks after the house, and by its portal schleiblick.de, where the contract, the payment, the terms and the cancellation conditions sit.
So what is private is the ownership, not the administrative route. We think that is the more honest answer than promising you can reach the owners at any hour — and the more orderly one, because a contract protects both sides.
What You Can Expect From Us
No key handover at a time that does not suit you: the key is in a key safe, you get the code in advance, and from 4 pm you can arrive whenever you like.
And no surprises on arrival. What this website shows is what you will find — the photographs are of this house, not of a similar one, and the list of amenities is complete rather than flattering.
